Most people won’t refuse free cookies or free coffee, but thank goodness my highly polite friends, neighbors, and work colleagues were willing to give the garage coffee in the little brown bag a try. Some of the roasting attempts tasted great and some tasted downright boring. The quality of the green coffee beans that can be purchased by home roasters over the internet is as uncertain as Brittany Spears’ behavior, but none the less entertaining to roast and try.

Even so, people drank it, and told me how it tasted to them. What I was most amazed by is that nearly every single person who said “I’m not a coffee connoisseur” was actually able to taste first, that it was different from what they had been drinking at home or at the office. Then secondly, tell the difference in coffees from week to week, describing their tasting experiences in remarkably similar fashion to each other (aside from a couple friends who were born with no ability to taste anything—which I’m sorry for and hope you continue to enjoy whatever you’ve been drinking).

As people began tasting coffee, and forming preferences, the questions came like a flood…..Where do green beans come from? How are they roasted? Why do coffees from different parts of the world taste different? How does quality come into play for coffee? How come the coffee I’ve been drinking tastes like it does? How long do beans stay fresh? What is espresso actually? What’s the best way to brew a cup of coffee? Can I just buy my coffee from you?

People want to know so much more about this beverage that they drink every day. We don’t have to settle for stale coffee anymore because we think that’s all coffee can give. Our coffee beans are ready to give us love like we’ve never had before! Twenty years ago, the canned coffee at the grocery store was the standard for what American coffee was. Later, Starbucks came along and raised our hopes a little more, by introducing more than just the standard brew to the regular coffee drinker. Today people all over the country are making the next leap and beginning to learn how much better their coffee experience can really become by drinking a well roasted, high quality coffee, that’s freshly roasted to order.

So, here it is…..Your very own coffee roaster and friend in the coffee business who is going to deliver freshly roasted beans straight to your door as frequently as you like, anywhere in the USA. All of our coffee questions will be answered and we’ll learn together as we develop and create the most kick-butt coffee for our daily drinking pleasure. Everything we’ll do and create is our collective coffee experience, and we’ll have a place where we can come together online to enjoy, learn, and share a virtual cup.

Welcome to Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee! We’ll be up and running with a full sized industrial roaster and facility in September. But don’t go anywhere just yet! Stay tuned for details on the monthly label photo contest that you, the Lizzy’s Fresh Coffee customer, will send in to appear on your favorite coffee, and product tastings of our coffee offerings before going to market!

Get ready for the fresh ride!

  1. Jay,
I’m so phyched to hear that you love the coffee and your beans passed the standards of your “coffee snop” sister. It’s so great to hear that you are loving the coffee so much that you are actually wanting to tell others about it! Thank you so much. I don’t have plans to create a MLM model as part of my business structure, so the payback you’ll receive will be in the form of big smiles and thank yous from those you share a cup with around your dining room table. I’ll plan to run a friend promo sometime in the early months of business, and I’ll be sure to let you know, as there will be free coffee involved for someone. In the mean time, I’ll see what I can do to get you some supplies for Monday morning since you sacrificed your inventory for the family. I know the roaster :)
    Cheers, Liz

  2. Hey Liz –
I had my parents and my coffee snob sister (a flight attendant from Houston) over for dinner last night. We had prepared a wonderful dinner followed by me busting out a bag of your decaf with desert. Now for years my sister has dissed my coffee – I have the wrong coffee maker, a cheap grinder and she says that I make it too light.

I have to admit that I’ve been more concerned about price than taste – so I was hoping to surprise her. But somehow I got carried away with the volume of beans I added to the grinder and I ended up making the darkest coffee that I’ve ever poured.

I was bumbed that I’d goofed cause I’d wanted to see what they thought about my new “find” but I wasn’t going to grind more beans and make them a fresh pot -I love my family but I hardly have enough beans to last till Sunday…

They started to sip and just as I was about to make excuses for the coffee my sister looked me with a kind of puzzled look on her face and asked
“WHAT KIND OF COFFEE IS THIS???”
“What’s wrong with it?” I asked.
“nothing she said… where’d you get it?
“a friend.. here in town… I work with him and his wife makes it in their garage or something”
    “No way…”
    “Way!!!!”
“I love this – This is great!!! really great… I want some!”
We went back and forth for awhile with my Dad and Stepmom piping in with their compliments and in the end I’ve got them all signed up for autoship. Can we do a Network Marketing thing here? I’ve already started my downline….
    Seriously…
    Liz???

  3. I recently sampled the Sunriser roast, can you say fan-fricking-tastic. What a great way to start my day. Thank you.

  4. This is definitely the best coffee I have ever had the opportunity to drink. Your husband had been kindly bringing me coffee to sample for a while now. Your coffee get’s better and better with each and every roast. I have to say though that I am starting to get a little frustrated. It sucks having to switch back to Farmer Brothers French roast whenever I run out of your delicious beans. I can’t wait till you open up shop in September and can keep me fully stocked with your freshly roasted beans.

I’ll definitely be recommending your coffee to all of my friends and family. I’m hooked!

  5. I usually drink coffee with no real facial expression unless the coffee is really good or really bad. In either case I always look down into my cup as if the steam was going to form words then sentences explaining its flavor that day.

Until coffee steam starts telling me why coffee is good or bad that day I’m looking forward to improving my coffee knowledge from The Fresh Ride.

    Bring on the industrial roaster!!

  6. Liz,

I can’t wait till you get up and running, your husband has given me a sample of your decaf beans and I’m sold. I tried telling my wife what I’ve learned, about why fresh roasted beans make such a brighter and smoother coffee than what we’ve been drinking all these years, but all she wanted to know was when she could get more. It looks like we’ve become your customers before you start production.

    Can’t wait till September!!!

    Jay Johnson
